Lent...

This time of year I always have trouble figuring out what I want to give up. This year, I am taking that above and beyond. This year, I am giving up junk food (broad, I know) which includes Girl Scout cookies and soda. I always snack way too much, and now is my chance to kick start my diet. This year however, I am also giving up Facebook. As a matter of fact by the time you are reading this, it will already be deactivated. I spend way too much time "stalking" people of the past or trying to follow what everyone is doing. Now, I can focus on much needed things that need to be done around my home and spend the precious time with my daughter. Will I be back, I don't know yet. My husband says he gives me a week before I go crazy without it, makes me feel like I was addicted to it or something. I usually don't stick to anything for Lent, but this year, this year I want it to be different. I want to succeed in giving up the small sacrifices that I chose. Jesus made the biggest sacrifice for all of us, to give up Facebook and junk food seems kind of trivial to me. So, if you get a chance today, please say a prayer for me that I can stick with my sacrifices.

On another note, My cousin Autumn stopped by for a visit yesterday with a surprise visitor. I had no idea who it was and it was killing me. Well, much to my amazement it was my cousin....

SABRINA!! I haven't seen her in like 6 years, so the fact that she wanted to see the sweet babes was awesome! We hung out for like an hour and it was great seeing her. We talked about a trip down there to visit, but not until Makayla can enjoy Disney (we are thinking about Jan 2013).
Well, I better get ready for work. Have a great Hump Day! Happy Ash Wednesday!

facebook can be a useful tool. you can manage it without giving it up. seriously: set a timer for ten minutes, and that is all the FB time you get. i can't imagine what anybody deos on FB for that long at a time, anyway (says the FarmVille junkie, lol).

but if you really want to give it up, good luck. i think you're going to need some "junk" in your life if you are giving up cookies and soda, but maybe you are a better person than i am.

ps -- you know you could have just stayed away without turning off your account, right? you are clearly committed.

oh and i forgot to mention what was SUPPOSED to be my original point: i try to take up something constructive during lent, instead of giving something up. like, clean out the closets a little bit each weekend and donate the giveaways to goodwill, etc. donate 2-3 cans of food every week to a food drive. i used to go to gracedale and just wander around and talk to any resident who stopped to talk to me. i have always felt a lot better about actively doing something good during lent than i ever have about giving up something bad. YMMV, obviously, but when i DO something instead of DENYING myself something, i have always been able to stick with it throughout lent.
