Opinions...
Everyone has them. Trust me, I hear them all the time. I just wonder why some people pick the workplace as their opportunity to stand on a soap box, wait, make that two soap boxes and proceed to talk to you for 40 minutes about their opinions. Do I want to go to work to be educated, yes, but do you need to tell me that you think a surgeon is a bad one just because he doesn't use a particular type of glove? Is that glove company giving you a kick-back because you are 100% behind them? Maybe the surgeon doesn't like the way that type of glove feels when he is doing surgery. Maybe he has a million other reasons, did you ask? No, you just stereo-typed him to make your miserable day even more miserable. Thanks so much for making my day miserable too! And if you feel so strongly about not using a certain type of glove, do the research, write it up, give it you management. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!! Don't just tell me! What the heck do you want me to do with this information. Well, maybe you got me to do what you want. I don't know. I don' t use that type of glove that you despise so much because I don't like how they make my hands feel. But, I am not going to go on and on for 20 minutes about the gloves unless you ASKED me my opinion. You hear me! If I asked for your input it is a different story, however, I never asked. So, next time you want to tell someone about the type of glove they should be using, why not ask them what type they use and why before you go off on a tangent. Next time, maybe that someone will care. Oh, and for the record...I don't think that Doc is a bad doctor, maybe if you weren't so miserable you would see that!

What a difference a day makes...
Yesterday was my first day of clinicals. Well kinda. No wait scratch that. On Friday we had midterms for my new job. Yes, midterms, like I am back in school again. Anyway, now for the next 3 weeks (2 for me because of an upcoming family vacay) we don't have class, we are just in the OR. Let me just tell you how nervous I was yesterday and how absolutely terrible the day was! I pretty much got yelled at for everything I did, I feel like I would have gotten yelled at for breathing if I breathed too loudly. I even went home and cried. First time EVER!!!
Today, however, COMPLETELY different.I was in the gyne room, and I was nervous that I wouldn't like it. However...so not what I thought! The nurses were laid back. The actually let me learn, let me ask questions. I got to open sterile instruments, open up the back table, add things to the sterile field. I got to prep op sites, do pre-op interviews AND I got to do some charting. I wanted to scrub in today, but that didn't happen. I am not disappointed, I did do a lot today. I know this isn't much to you guys...but to me...this is HUGE!! I assisted in surgical counting, and learned lots of new things. I am in the Open heart OR tomorrow with my favorite surgeon, maybe he will let me scrub...if not, I will see what I can do to gain more experience and continue to grow!
